Next year, each virtual course will contain a time expectation section in the syllabus.  On average it will look like the following:

Average 1/2 hour per class, per week - Virtual Content Time expectations

Average up to 2 1/2 hours per class, per week - Offline work which includes time spent with community experts, work on projects, and activities designed to practice the concepts presented in the virtual content and/or by the community expert.

Weighted Breakdown

  • To Be Done in the First Week 5%
  • Practice/Activity Log 25%
  • Online Lesson 25%
  • Count Day Assignment 20%
  • Final Project/Last Week (25%)

Each assignment will have three weeks to complete until the last three weeks, those will gradually decline to being due within the week.  There will no longer be any "optional" or "extra credit" assignments.  The assignments due in the last three weeks will open up early so you will have plenty of time to complete them.

The actual virtual class outlines will be available for you to look over before course registration begins.  This will have a more detailed breakdown.

Grading

You will receive a "Pass" grade if your Canvas class has an 80% or better grade.  If you receive a "Fail" grade, the next semester you will be limited by the number of Canvas classes you "fail".  For instance; if you take Connections Home, Instruments of the Band and Instruments of the Orchestra and you fail Instruments of the Orchestra, then you will only be able to take Connections and one other class the next semester.  If you fail them all, then you will be allowed one more semester of one class with Connections.  If you fail that, then you will be limited to only seated classes.  Seated classes take place in the traditional model.  They are located in one of our district buildings and require daily attendance.

Connections Home

This course will contain assignments and will have the expectation of completing the class with a 100% grade.  The breakdown will be a little different as this is designed to communicate important information.  All of these assignments will be required, unless they are in a Module designated as not required.  This class will have the assignments posted at the beginning of each semester, but we may need to add to them if circumstances deem it necessary.  The time expectations on this class will be an average of less then 1/2 hour per week, per student.  This is a required class and is used for communication.
